Social Media and the topic of how detrimental it can be to mental health has been discussed frequently throughout my life. As a kid, I was not allowed to get most forms of social media until seventh grade or later, and at the time I remember being frustrated with my mom for not allowing me to use it, but now I am glad I did not have social media from a young age. It is hard not to have a complex relationship with social media. In one way I love social media, and being able to connect with friends, especially those I don’t see as often anymore, but in the other way, I hate social media. I hate how it has allowed societal standards and comparisons of others to take over everyday life. I love being able to post a picture I like of something fun I did, but I hate worrying that someone might think it is stupid or embarrassing for me.
